Dr. Mike Flynn is a national leader and change agent in mathematics education. He is the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Flynn Education Inc, supporting school districts to enhance the teaching and learning of mathematics for all students (PreK-12). Prior to this work he was the Director of Math Leadership Programs at Mount Holyoke College for 10 years and he taught second grade for 14 years in Southampton, MA.
Mike is the author of Beyond Answers, Exploring Mathematical Practices with Young Children and has contributed to many education journals and publications. In 2008 he was named the Massachusetts Teacher of the Year and he was the recipient of the 2010 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics Teaching.
Sarah Bent is the Chief Operating Officer at Flynn Education. She is passionate about fostering confident, empowered learners through authentically engaging and meaningful math experiences. Sarah has served as an elementary classroom teacher, directed a master’s program for teaching mathematics, worked with pre-service teachers, and developed curricular materials. Sarah finds the most professional joy at the classroom level, working side-by-side with teachers to create opportunities for all students to find success in mathematics.
Kaneka Turner is an independent math specialist and coach with rich expertise in the design and facilitation of math professional learning. Her work illuminates Black women and Black girls as brilliant assets to math education. She has served education for 25 years in roles that span from classroom teacher to district elementary curriculum specialist and lead author for IM K-5 Mathâ„¢ grade 4. She is the founder of a consulting company that seeks to extend an open invitation to all to know and love mathematics deeply.
Marta Garcia brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to her work with teachers, coaches and students. Her focus is on lifting students’ voices and bringing joy to the teaching and learning of mathematics. She has expertise in working with a range of learners, including multilingual learners. Marta specializes in professional learning that empowers teachers. Her work with lesson studies, virtual learning, and coaching collaboratives all center on developing sustainable initiatives that position students and teachers as capable of ambitious work. Marta is interested in supporting learners to reimagine math as vibrant, inclusive and accessible.
Zak Champagne is the Chief Content Officer at Flynn Education and he has been involved in mathematics education for 25 years. He believes that each and every student has important mathematical ideas and works to share his passion and love for mathematics with teachers around the country. He is also an author of the award winning enVision Mathematics program published by Savvas.
He has received many state and national awards for excellence in teaching, including the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST), Duval County Teacher of the Year, Finalist for Florida Teacher of the Year, and the Kenneth Kidd Mathematics Educator of the Year award.
